Christy Hawkins attended Maryland Institute, College of Art (MICA) from 1996 to 1998, majoring in sculpture. For the next several years, she opted for the education afforded by travel, adventure, and solitude. She planned and executed numerous excursions, seeking art and wilderness around the world. These included a solo bicycle tour of England, Ireland, and France, in which she saw William Butler Yeatsʼ castle in Ireland and Claude Monetʼs Garden at Giverny. She solo-cycled across the U.S. next, from Portland, Oregon to Baltimore, Maryland, covering over 3,000 miles in 30 days. After admiring many of our National Parks on that trip, she longed to see more wilderness, so she backpacked the 230-mile John Muir Trail in the Sierra Nevadas. These trips inspired her personal aesthetic and her artistic ideals.
Her next adventure, motherhood, led her to the art of quiltmaking. She began designing and sewing quilts to provide one-of-a-kind keepsakes for her own boys, Halen and Liam, but loved the process so much that she turned it into a small etsy business, BearyOrganics. After several years and numerous quilts, Christy decided to switch gears and combine her graphic design skills and love of cycling into the work of designing custom cycling kits. For four years, she designed kits professionally for clubs, teams, and professional athletes at the premier cycling apparel brand, Castelli. In 2018, Christy started working for herself, as a bicycle tour guide around her home state of Oregon. She ran high end bike tours for a global customer base until Covid made this business unsafe. Christy switched gears and took on the task of helping a small outdoor brand get their marketing and visual aesthetics in line, as their marketing manager. In 2021, Christy returned to Castelli (and added brand Sportful) to manage the Graphics Department and help with a factory transition. She also joined the Portland Trophy Cup as a partner, taking on the management of communications and design for the 6 race cyclocross series.
Christy received her Bachelors of Art in Art Practices at Portland State University in 2014. Sheʼs exhibited at RACC's Portland Building, PSU's Littman and White Gallery, MICAʼs Decker Gallery, Young Blood Gallery, the NoNo Gallery, and Atlanta City Hall East, between the years of 1996 and 2014.
